Peatland Project
The Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park Authority (LLTNPA) approached us in 2015 to work in partnership with the Estate on a conservation project to restore and enhance the mountain peat bogs on the Estate.
Scottish Natural Heritage's Peatland ACTION is helping to restore damaged Peatlands in Scotland to maintain carbon stores and encourage carbon sequestration to restore peatland ecosystem functions, this will enhance the ecosystem's resilience to climate change. Peatland ACTION looks to build peatland restoration capacity and the understanding amongst land managers, contractors, advisers and the public that Peatlands in good health are valuable and have many benefits.
We have now carried out restoration on 2 areas of peatland on the estate and a case study written by the Peatland ACTION officer for the LLTNPA can be found here, which explains the process.
